Some people love to potter in a well-equipped kitchen with local produce when on holiday, others prefer to eat out each day, or a combination of both – there’s plenty of choice close by. If you’d prefer to enjoy a relaxed meal in your cottage, but not have to shop and cook, I’ll do that for you! You choose meat, fish or vegetarian, and your dinner will be freshly made from what is good and seasonal on the day, delivered to you with a dessert at a time to suit you.
You may have travelled some distance to reach us, and if you would like to find a hot meal waiting for you, all you have to do is let me know in advance and I’ll be delighted to cook something delicious for you. Depending on what you choose, it may be simmering away in the slow cooker, or be in the fridge ready to go into the oven when you are ready.
We have a fantastic butcher in the village, so all the meat I use will be fresh and local. Fish will also be local and vegetables seasonal, where possible from our own garden.

G E Honey and Son is the fabulous butcher in Parkham selling home-grown and locally-produced meat. Lang’s Farm Shop just outside the village sells a range of local produce. Small convenience shops with Post Offices are not far away in Bucks Cross and Woolsery, and there are many supermarkets in Bideford. We also understand that most supermarkets will deliver to Kerswell Farm.
It’s always difficult to recommend places to eat, as they change often, and tastes vary – these are just a few of those that we have tried and enjoyed or have been highly recommended to us by people we trust!
The Bell Inn, Parkham
Early in 2017 our local, the Bell Inn, suffered a huge fire and is currently closed. Work is underway to rebuild it, and we eagerly await the reopening.
On Bideford Quay, you would be hard pressed to find better fish and chips, either to eat in or take away. Great value.
The Italian Kitchen, Bideford
A small, simple but very good Italian restaurant with wood-fired pizza oven. A super-friendly welcome.
The Seagate, Appledore
The Seagate on the quay in lovely Appledore, dog-friendly and great seasonal food. Very popular!
Mad Henry’s at Riverside Cottage Guesthouse, Bideford
Reservation only, but excellent vintage teas by the Torridge River on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Thatched Inn, Abbotsham
Acclaimed local pub, with lovely walks in the area. Booking essential.
